Dayveon Jones, 17-Year-Old Arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery in Reno

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — Reno Police have arrested two suspects in connection with an attempted armed robbery that ended in a shooting at the El Paso Market and Liquor Store on East Grove Street.

On January 11, 2024, at around 8:30 p.m., two suspects attempted to rob the store, and during the robbery, one of the suspects fired a single shot, striking the clerk in the chest. Fortunately, the victim survived the shooting, suffering a non-life-threatening injury. The victim was treated and later released from the hospital.

The suspects, 18-year-old Dayveon Jones and a 17-year-old boy, were arrested on Thursday, January 18. Jones faces charges of Attempted Robbery with a Deadly Weapon and Battery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, while the 17-year-old is charged with Attempted Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.

UPDATE (January 22): A reward of $1,500 is being offered by Secret Witness for information leading to the prosecution of anyone involved in the robbery and shooting. Police urge anyone with relevant information to come forward by calling the Reno Police Department at (775) 334-2677 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
