Dayton Carter Arrested After Shots Fired in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Okla. (KFOR) – Police are investigating a shooting incident that took place Tuesday night near Wallace and Draper in Shawnee.

Local resident Tari Thomas said she was jolted awake by the chaos outside her home.

“It was very scary for me,” Thomas told KFOR. “There was just a lot of commotion, and then police showed up.”

According to Shawnee Police, the gunfire erupted during an argument between two groups.

“This is reckless. It’s very dangerous,” said Cpl. Vivian Lozano-Stafford of the Shawnee Police Department.

While authorities have not disclosed the cause of the altercation or the number of shots fired, no injuries were reported.

Neighbor Angel Atkinson, a mother of four, expressed concerns about safety.

“I have four kids in this house. I would like to know that we live somewhere that’s safe,” she said.

Arrests & Charges
Police arrested 20-year-old Dayton Carter, who has been booked into the Pottawatomie County Jail on multiple charges, including:

Use of a vehicle to facilitate discharge of a weapon
Assault with a deadly weapon
First-degree robbery
Use of a firearm while committing a felony
A juvenile suspect was also arrested and faces similar charges, including shooting with intent to kill.

Ongoing Investigation
Authorities expect to make at least one more arrest in connection to the incident.

“Our priority is the safety of our citizens, and we won’t tolerate this in our city,” said Cpl. Lozano-Stafford.

The investigation remains ongoing.
