GROVELAND, NY — A Henrietta man, David W. Tallman Jr., 46, is facing multiple charges in Livingston and Monroe counties after allegedly stealing a $60,000 wheel loader in December 2024. The stolen machinery was recovered days later when it was found parked in a field in the town of Groveland.
According to authorities, Tallman stole the 2000 Case 721C loader from behind the Ski Company store at Frontier Commons on Jefferson Rd. in Henrietta on the morning of December 1, 2024. He reportedly drove the 30,000-pound loader approximately 40 miles to Groveland, where he left it in a farmer’s field. A passerby discovered the loader on Mill Gully Road on December 3, leading to the recovery of the stolen property.
Sheriff’s deputies from both Livingston and Monroe counties began an investigation following the discovery. On March 7, Livingston County deputies arrested Tallman, charging him with second-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class C felony, due to the loader’s value exceeding $50,000.
Tallman was initially arrested by Monroe County deputies on March 5, when they found him on Jefferson Road in Henrietta. He reportedly gave deputies a false name during the arrest. Tallman was later charged with second-degree grand larceny and false personation, both class C felonies. After his arraignment in Monroe County, he was released to pretrial supervision.
Upon further investigation, Monroe County technicians processed the scene in Groveland, recovered evidence from the loader, and reviewed video footage, leading to Tallman’s identification as the suspect.
On March 7, Tallman was arraigned in Livingston County, where he was remanded without bail due to prior felony convictions. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office requested he remain in custody pending further court proceedings.
Both the Livingston County and Monroe County Sheriff’s Offices worked together on the case, with Monroe County authorities praising the thorough investigation and support from Livingston County.
