David Silva, Convicted of 2013 Readfield Murder, Dies in New Jersey Prison

READFIELD, MAINE — David Silva, the man convicted of the 2013 murder of Robert Orr in Readfield, has died while incarcerated in a New Jersey prison. Silva, 46, was serving a 43-year sentence for the brutal killing of 56-year-old Orr when he passed away last Thursday following an encounter with correctional officers.

Silva had been convicted for killing Orr in his Readfield home, where Silva and his then-girlfriend had been renting a room. Silva’s ex-girlfriend later testified that she woke up to find Orr’s body headless and slouched in a chair. Silva then allegedly set the house on fire before fleeing the scene with stolen items, including jewelry, guns, and money. The couple later traveled to Silva’s parents’ home in Massachusetts, where Silva was eventually arrested.

The exact circumstances of Silva’s death in custody remain unclear, and officials are investigating the incident. The reason for Silva’s incarceration in New Jersey is also under investigation.
