MIAMI, FL – A 66-year-old man has been arrested after police say he targeted several Miami college campuses in a series of vending machine burglaries.
David Sharon is accused of breaking into machines at four higher education institutions: Lindsey Hopkins Technical College, Miami Dade College’s Medical and Wolfson campuses, and Atlantis University.
According to an arrest report, Sharon used an unidentified tool to pry open vending machines, causing substantial damage and stealing the cash inside. Authorities say his consistent clothing, identical methods, and the close timing of each burglary helped link him to the crimes.
Miami police noted that Sharon has eight prior arrests for similar offenses.
A patrol officer spotted him near Northwest Seventh Court and 11th Street in Overtown on Tuesday evening. He was taken into custody around 8 p.m.
Sharon, who is currently homeless, faces multiple charges, including burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and trespassing on school grounds.
He is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. As of Wednesday afternoon, bond had not yet been set.
