FARGO, N.D. — A Grand Forks man, David Berg, 48, has been arrested following an incident in which he allegedly stole his girlfriend’s car and fled to West Fargo. Berg now faces charges of theft and preventing arrest.
According to police documents, the incident occurred on Friday, November 29, when Berg went to his girlfriend’s workplace in Grand Forks around 6:00 p.m. There, he took her phone and car, driving the stolen vehicle from Grand Forks to West Fargo.
Shortly before 8:00 p.m. that same evening, officers in West Fargo initiated a traffic stop in the 300 block of Sheyenne Street on a vehicle reported as stolen. Police say Berg resisted arrest when officers attempted to take him into custody. He allegedly ignored commands and made movements toward his chest, prompting officers to take him to the ground before handcuffing him.
During transport to jail, Berg told police that his girlfriend had asked him to drive the car to Fargo and return to Grand Forks to pick her up. However, after further investigation, West Fargo Police determined that the car was valued at $5,042.
Berg is currently facing charges of theft and resisting arrest.
