Oshkosh, Wis. (WLUK) — Darnell McCauley, 27, has been convicted for stabbing his brother 18 times during an altercation in Neenah, Wisconsin. The incident occurred on December 18, 2023, at a residence on Marathon Avenue.
McCauley pleaded no contest to charges of aggravated battery and second-degree recklessly endangering safety, though he was initially charged with attempted homicide. The stabbing occurred after an argument between the two men, allegedly sparked over a cigar. A woman present at the home stated McCauley had made multiple threats, including comments about killing his brother and her.
While McCauley initially told police that he acted in self-defense, claiming his brother was the one who had the knife, the victim reported that McCauley was the aggressor. The victim, who suffered wounds to his arm, neck, head, shoulder, and back, was hospitalized with at least 18 injuries, including a punctured lung.
In his statement to police, McCauley claimed the altercation was fueled by frustration with his brother and the woman, stating he was “used” by them despite paying rent and taking care of the household. McCauley also mentioned that he and the others had been drinking and smoking crack before the incident.
McCauley will be sentenced on February 27, 2024.
