Country singer Darius Rucker was arrested in Tennessee on charges of drug possession and vehicle registration violations. According to TMZ, Rucker faces charges of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance, along with a separate violation for an expired vehicle registration.
Simple possession/casual exchange charges are typically related to the possession of small amounts of drugs without any associated manufacturing equipment or paraphernalia. Rucker was booked into the Williamson County Jail and was released within an hour on bond. He is no longer in custody.
Rucker’s attorney, Mark Puryear, confirmed that the artist is fully cooperating with authorities. Under Tennessee law, both charges are classified as Class A misdemeanors, carrying potential penalties of up to one year in jail and fines up to $2,500.
Best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for Hootie & The Blowfish, Rucker transitioned into country music after the band’s hiatus in 2008. His debut country album, Learn to Live, was released the same year, marking the start of his successful solo career. He has since won Grammy Awards, CMA, and ACM awards, with his latest album, Carolyn’s Boy, released in October 2023.
