Daniel Duncan Indicted for 2013 Double Homicide in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – A grand jury has returned indictments against 43-year-old Daniel Elwood Duncan in connection to the 2013 double homicide of Vicky Purdy and Ricky Dodson, marking a significant development in a case that remained unsolved for over a decade.

Duncan, arrested on October 4, 2024, faces four charges in relation to the murders, including:

Two counts of felony first-degree murder
One count of willfully defiling a dead body
One felony count of processing or transporting a firearm by a convicted felon
Authorities confirmed Duncan remains in custody without bond as he awaits further court proceedings. The long-unsolved case had shocked the Franklin County community, and the new developments in the investigation have brought renewed attention to the tragic deaths of Purdy and Dodson.

The couple was found dead under suspicious circumstances in 2013, and it wasn’t until recently that new evidence led to Duncan’s arrest. Law enforcement expressed relief at the breakthrough, acknowledging the emotional toll the case had taken on the victims’ families and the local community.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the case progresses through the judicial system. Duncan’s trial is set to proceed as authorities continue their pursuit of justice for the victims.
