Cyber Fraudsters Arrested in Rs 83 Crore Scam, 9,000 Victims

n a major breakthrough, eight cyber criminals have been arrested in connection with a massive fraud that defrauded over 9,000 victims of approximately Rs 83 crore. The accused were involved in a range of fraudulent activities, including loan app scams, stock market investment frauds, and task-based frauds. The arrests were made between September and December 2024, following the investigation of four cybercrime cases in the city.

According to ACP Priyanshu Diwan, six mobile phones recovered from the arrested suspects revealed their involvement in 8,818 cyber fraud complaints and 336 cyber fraud FIRs across the country. These frauds collectively led to a loss of Rs 83.21 crore to the victims.

The fraudsters used various tactics, such as fraudulent loan apps, fake stock market investment advice, and paid online tasks to trick victims. Police have seized several digital devices as evidence in these cases, and investigations are ongoing to identify other potential victims and accomplices.
