In a major breakthrough, the Cyber-Crime Police Station of Outer North Delhi has successfully dismantled a large-scale digital fraud operation, arresting three key suspects from Lucknow (U.P.) and Karnal (Haryana) who had been impersonating TRAI and CBI officers.
The fraud was uncovered after a complaint was registered through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The accused have been identified as Ajaydeep (32), son of Jagdish Prasad, a resident of Rajajipuram, Lucknow; Abhishek Srivastava (34), son of Santosh Kumar Srivastava, from Krishna Nagar, Mirjapur, U.P.; and Ashutosh Bora (30), son of Narinder Singh, a resident of New Palam Vihar, Gurugram, Haryana.
The operation, which used sophisticated SIP technology, involved spoofing Indian landline numbers, making it nearly impossible to trace the calls’ origins. The fraudulent calls were routed through offshore servers in Cambodia, Thailand, and Canada, targeting victims across India. One victim in Lucknow lost Rs 94,000 after receiving a deceptive call.
The investigation led to the arrests of the three suspects during raids carried out on January 29 and February 2, 2025. Ajaydeep and Abhishek were responsible for setting up the infrastructure for SIP trunking, while Ashutosh facilitated connections with international fraud networks. The police seized over 1,000 SIP numbers and terminals during the raids, disrupting the nationwide criminal network.
The operation, which made over 200,000 fraudulent calls using more than 5,000 SIP numbers, has been severely crippled with these arrests. The authorities also recovered several mobile phones, laptops, routers, switches, documents, and rent agreements used to maintain the fraud network.
