A 19-year-old youth, Deepanshu Kori from Chhindwara district, was arrested by the cyber crime branch on Sunday for allegedly scamming high school and intermediate students. Kori had been running Telegram channels that falsely offered leaked question papers from the MP Board, using the board’s official logo and monogram to gain the students’ trust.
According to Additional DCP (Crime) Shailendra Singh Chauhan, the police investigation was triggered after complaints surfaced about individuals scamming students by providing them with fake question papers. Using surveillance techniques, the cyber crime team was able to track down Kori, recovering two mobile phones and two SIM cards used in the crime.
Kori operated two Telegram channels, targeting intermediate students. He promised them access to leaked question papers for a fee ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1000, providing sample papers as proof of his claims. His scam was similar to a previous case in which another individual, Shivam Yadav from Bhind, was arrested for employing a similar modus operandi.
The police are continuing their efforts to track other possible accomplices and prevent further fraudulent activities targeting students.
