Miguel Ibarguren, a Cuban truck driver, was found guilty of murder after killing his co-driver, Aristides García, and leaving his body near an interstate highway in Indiana.
The crime, which occurred in February 2022, was brought to justice after a jury in White County, Indiana, convicted Ibarguren of the murder of Aristides García, 63, a resident of Los Angeles, California. García’s body was discovered on March 8, 2022, in a ditch along Interstate 65, following reports from his employer that he had been missing since February 3.
Both García and Ibarguren were co-pilots for a national trucking company based in Iowa. Authorities discovered the semi-truck without García on board, prompting a missing persons investigation. The body was found near a mile marker on the highway, and after an autopsy, Indiana state police confirmed García’s death was a homicide.
On March 13, 2022, White County authorities issued an arrest warrant for Miguel Ibarguren. Thanks to the collaboration of several law enforcement agencies, Ibarguren was located in Arlington, Texas, and extradited to Indiana for trial.
Although details about the motive for the crime remain unclear, the authorities have stated that the investigation was greatly aided by the combined efforts of multiple agencies.
The sentencing for Miguel Ibarguren is scheduled for next month, and authorities have promised to release further details at that time.
