SEWARD, Neb. (KOLN) – A Denver man, Craig Campbell, 64, faces serious charges after a Seward County Sheriff’s deputy discovered eight pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
According to court documents, Campbell was stopped on I-80, south of Seward, for multiple driving violations, including following too closely, driving on the shoulder, and speeding. While issuing a warning, the deputy became suspicious of Campbell’s involvement in criminal activity. Despite being denied consent for a search, the deputy deployed a K-9, which alerted to the presence of drugs.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a backpack containing eight pounds of suspected methamphetamine. Campbell was arrested and taken to the Seward County Detention Center.
Campbell appeared in court on Wednesday, facing charges of possession of 140 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance without a tax stamp. His bond was set at 10% of $250,000, with his next hearing scheduled for February 19.
