COVINGTON, Tenn. — A Covington woman has been arrested for embezzling approximately $16,000 from her former employer over the course of two years.
Mallorie Page, 30, faces charges of fraudulent use of a credit card and is currently being held at the Tipton County Jail on a $20,000 bond. According to the Covington Police Department (CPD), the theft was reported on January 31 when the owner of Fletcher’s Auto on Highway 51 noticed $16,000 in unauthorized charges on his business credit card.
After reviewing the business bank records, detectives traced the fraudulent transactions back to Page, a former employee of the auto shop. Investigators found that some of the unapproved purchases had been made through DoorDash and Walmart. Further inquiries revealed that the fraud had been taking place over the past two years.
A search of Page’s home on Tuesday uncovered additional evidence of unauthorized purchases made using the business credit card. She was arrested at the scene and is scheduled to appear in court later this week.
Covington Police Chief Donna Turner is urging locals to regularly monitor their credit card and bank account activities. “Whether it be theft of your identity or unauthorized approval by someone you know, both can be a tool to make unwanted charges, theft, and could harm your credit,” said Chief Turner.
