Court Approves Arrest of Olusanya Sunday Okusanya in N64m Fraud Case

A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted permission to the Inspector-General of Police to arrest Olusanya Sunday Okusanya, a fugitive believed to have fled to the United Kingdom following an alleged N64 million fraud. The decision came after an ex parte application filed by police attorney S. O. Ayodele.

Okusanya is accused of defrauding Helen Isichei by obtaining N64 million under false pretenses. Justice Yellim Bogoro ruled in favor of the police’s request, allowing them to arrest Okusanya, who reportedly absconded after the crime.

According to Ayodele, the motion was supported by an affidavit detailing the case and relevant legal documents. The judge set a new court date for December 10, 2024, to review the status of Okusanya’s potential extradition and arraignment.

The police investigation was launched following a petition by the victim, Helen Isichei. INTERPOL and the Force CID have collaborated with the Ministry of Justice to facilitate the suspect’s extradition from the UK.

Okusanya faces charges under Nigeria’s Advance Fee Fraud Act for fraudulently obtaining funds and the Criminal Code Act for theft.

The court ruling highlights ongoing efforts to bring the suspect to justice and prevent further evasion.
