Concord Man Arrested in Multi-County Fraud Scheme Involving Stolen Construction Equipment

Noah Daniel Garrett, 27, of Concord, was arrested in Catawba County on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, following a multi-county investigation into stolen construction equipment.

Garrett was charged with felony larceny in connection with a stolen Caterpillar 315c Excavator from Jordan Lane in Avery County. The arrest, which was based on a warrant issued in Avery County, came after a lengthy investigation involving multiple counties in North Carolina. Garrett was held on a $675,000 secured bond, according to a release from Avery County Sheriff Mike Henley.

The stolen excavator was sold in Catawba County, and authorities are currently investigating further details of the fraud scheme. The investigation is ongoing, with officials believing that Garrett and his father may have been involved in additional fraudulent activities spanning several counties in the region.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, which is working alongside Avery County authorities, is encouraging anyone who may have fallen victim to Garrett and his father to come forward.

“We are confident there are more victims out there who have not yet come forward,” said Sergeant Stobbe, the lead investigator. “If you or someone you know has been deceived by these individuals, we strongly urge you to contact our office. Even if you didn’t realize you were a victim at the time, we want to hear from you.”

As the investigation continues, authorities are hoping to identify more stolen equipment and potential victims tied to the duo’s alleged scheme.
