Colonial Heights Man Arrested for Falsely Reporting Robbery at Southpark Mall

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WRIC) – Brandon Lasalle Irvin, a 22-year-old from North Chesterfield, has been arrested by the Colonial Heights Police Department in connection to a false report of a robbery at Southpark Mall.

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at around 2:35 p.m., Colonial Heights police responded to Southpark Mall after receiving a report of a robbery involving a Brinks security driver. The robbery was allegedly committed by an unknown suspect. However, after investigating the situation, police determined no robbery had taken place.

Authorities found that Irvin, a Brinks security employee, had falsely reported the robbery. The investigation revealed that Irvin had actually gambled away money that was supposed to be transported by the Brinks truck and made up the robbery story to cover up his actions. Police indicated that Irvin had been involved in an illegal gambling scheme, often referred to as a “shell game.”

Irvin was charged with embezzlement, filing a false police report, obstruction of justice, and illegal gambling. He was arrested and taken to Riverside Regional Jail, where he is being held on a secured bond.

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Senior Detective Morgan Davis with the Colonial Heights Police Department at 804-898-3066.
