Coimbatore Police Arrest 24-Year-Old From Shillong for Supplying Drugs

In a significant drug bust, Peelamedu police in Coimbatore arrested D Amrudheen, a 24-year-old man from Shillong, for allegedly supplying ganja, LSD, and pills to students at a private college near SITRA. The police seized 1.25 kg of ganja from the accused during the operation.

Amrudheen, originally from Venkateswara Layout, Udumalpet in Tirupur district, had completed his BTech from a private college in Sathyamangalam, Erode district, and was working for a private company. Last year, he moved to Shillong, where he started running a PG hostel and also engaged in the illegal drug trade.

According to Dr R Stalin, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Coimbatore city, Amrudheen began supplying drugs, including LSD and pills, to a network of students and drug peddlers through courier or postal services from Shillong. He had been targeting students and peddlers in Coimbatore, offering drugs as part of a broader network operating between the two cities.

Amrudheen’s arrest has raised concerns over the growing drug abuse among students in the region, with authorities pledging to ramp up efforts against such trafficking. Investigations are ongoing to track the supply chain and any additional accomplices involved in this illegal activity.
