Cody Ray Smith Arrested for Assault, Kidnapping in Iowa

ARLINGTON, Iowa – Cody Ray Smith, 38, of Arlington, Iowa, was arrested after deputies say he assaulted multiple juveniles and barricaded himself inside a home on Feb. 28.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to 911 calls around 11 p.m. reporting an armed man inside a residence on Cable Road. Authorities say Smith had weapons, a thermal scope, and was with several juveniles, one of whom was injured.

Law enforcement from multiple agencies used de-escalation tactics to persuade Smith to surrender peacefully. He was taken into custody without incident and later charged with:

Kidnapping
Assault with a dangerous weapon
First-degree harassment
Smith was released after posting a $30,000 bond.

During the investigation, authorities uncovered another assault involving multiple juveniles at a different location, leaving one person seriously injured. That case remains under investigation.
