Cody R. Alland Arrested for 1st Degree Homicide in La Crosse

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – Authorities have confirmed the death of Justin J. Betz, 42, following a shooting on the north side of La Crosse early Sunday morning. Police have made an arrest in connection with the case.

Cody R. Alland, 28, was identified as the person responsible for the shooting, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of George Street. Police say the shooting followed an argument between Alland and Betz.

Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, Betz was pronounced dead at a La Crosse hospital.

Authorities located Alland near a northside residence later that day. He fled into a vehicle but was apprehended during a traffic stop.

Alland is now being held at the La Crosse County Jail on a charge of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. A $1 million cash bond was set after an arrest warrant was issued by Judge Gloria Doyle on Sunday. The courthouse was closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
