CID Busts ₹45 Lakh Scam in Illegal Sale of Ration Grains

Officials from the CID crime unit have dismantled a significant scam involving the illegal sale of subsidised ration grains in Bapunagar, resulting in the arrest of four individuals. The scam, valued at Rs45.16 lakh, involved the diversion of grains from the public distribution system (PDS) for illicit profit.

The main accused, Sushil Goyal, along with his brother Gopal Goyal, nephew Ashish Goyal, and associate Vasant Prajapati, operated the racket from their shop, Saurabh Traders. Acting on a tip-off, CID officials intercepted a pick-up truck on the Ahmedabad-Kheda Highway near Jetalpur village, which was carrying 80 sacks of rice destined for VV Agro Industries.

According to a senior police officer, “The accused were manipulating distribution records to redirect grains meant for public distribution, causing financial losses to the government and depriving the needy of essential supplies.”

Investigations revealed that the suspects acquired PDS grains, such as rice and wheat, using fake invoices. They repackaged these grains and sold them at inflated prices. The CID seized 4,000 kg of grains, valued at Rs1.15 lakh, along with false bills and other incriminating evidence. Officers also raided VV Agro Industries around 1 PM, apprehending the accused while they were offloading the grains.
