LIMERICK, IRELAND — Christy Keane, a 60-year-old convicted drug dealer from St. Mary’s Park, was arrested on November 22, 2024, in connection with a major cocaine seizure valued at €560,000. The arrest, which took place following searches in Limerick City, has added another chapter to Keane’s criminal history.
Gardaí (Irish police) detained Keane and another man, aged in his 40s, after a vehicle search resulted in the discovery of €490,000 worth of suspected cocaine. A subsequent property search led to the seizure of an additional €70,000 worth of the drug. Both men are being questioned as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking.
This arrest marks a significant development in the life of Keane, who has a long history tied to organized crime and violent incidents. In 2015, Keane survived an assassination attempt orchestrated by the Dundon McCarthy gang. The attack left him with multiple gunshot wounds, but he managed to recover after undergoing surgery. Keane was also the target of a longstanding feud between the Keane Collopy gangs and the Dundon McCarthy gang, which has been linked to numerous violent crimes and murders in the region.
Keane’s criminal activity dates back to 2000 when he was arrested with €240,000 worth of cannabis, leading to a 10-year sentence. He served seven years and, following his release, spent considerable time in Spain before returning to Limerick. His brother, Kieran Keane, was murdered in 2003, a tragic event that further cemented the Keane family’s place in the violent world of organized crime in Limerick.
The ongoing drug investigation is expected to lead to further arrests as Gardaí continue to target the trafficking networks operating in the region. The seizure is a significant blow to local drug trade operations, and authorities are working to dismantle the networks responsible for the illegal activity.
As the investigation unfolds, Christy Keane remains in Garda custody, awaiting charges related to the massive cocaine haul.
