Chimereze Chinedu Arrested for Defrauding Thai Woman

Police in Lagos State have arrested Chimereze Chinedu for allegedly defrauding a Thai citizen of $216,000 (₦317,725,271) and ₦30 million. The arrest was confirmed by police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Chinedu reportedly deceived his victim by pretending to sell her 37 tricycles. He escalated his fraudulent scheme by forging letters from the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) in Lagos, claiming the tricycles had been seized by police. He then extorted an additional ₦30 million from the victim to “secure” the release of the tricycles.

Chinedu was arrested on May 10 in Enugu State after extensive investigation and support from the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL). He remains in detention as authorities work to identify and apprehend his accomplices. The Lagos State Command is committed to combating internet fraud and bringing perpetrators to justice.
