On December 2, 2024, Cheyenne police arrested 37-year-old Shaundrea Kay Carlson after two incidents involving counterfeit money during sales on Facebook Marketplace. The first incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. at 4911 King Arthur Way, when a man reported receiving fake bills during the sale of a Nintendo Switch. Officer Kyle Sandburg responded to the scene and found Officer Hunter had already detained Carlson.
Earlier that day, another person reported a similar incident involving counterfeit cash in the sale of Apple AirPods Pro at the same location. After investigating, police linked Carlson to both cases.
During her arrest, officers discovered approximately $730 in counterfeit “motion picture money” on Carlson. They also found a small bag of suspected methamphetamine, a meth pipe with residue, and a pipe containing suspected marijuana residue.
Carlson has a history of theft, with multiple previous convictions for shoplifting. She was arrested and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center. She now faces charges, including felony theft, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 12.
