Chembur Duo Charged for Duping Bank Manager of ₹26 Lakh

The Tilak Nagar police in Chembur have filed charges against two individuals for allegedly defrauding a Kotak Mahindra bank manager of Rs26 lakh. The accused, one of whom was a bank customer, approached the victim with promises of lucrative stock market investments.

According to police reports, the incident occurred between 2022 and 2023 when the victim was a relationship manager at ICICI Bank’s BKC branch. Aamir Ali Dostmohammad Merchant, claiming to be a stock market expert, introduced his associate Imran Ahmed Qureshi. The duo convinced the victim to invest, assuring her a 10% monthly return.

Over the course of a year, the victim invested more than Rs26 lakh. Initially, she received some promised commissions, but payments eventually ceased. Despite her repeated inquiries, Merchant and Qureshi provided no explanations.

When the victim sought to recover her funds, she discovered that Aamir had sold his house in Neral and moved away. Further investigation revealed that Imran had also closed the bank account where the funds were deposited. After nearly a year of waiting for her money to be returned, the victim filed a complaint with the police on October 4, resulting in charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust against the two accused.
