Chaun Davis Arrested for Leading Philadelphia Area Car Theft Ring

Chaun Davis, 45, has been arrested and charged as the ringleader in a series of car thefts across Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs. The District Attorney’s Office reports that Davis is connected to several thefts between January and October 2024, where items were stolen from vehicles.

Investigators believe Davis is linked to at least 20 thefts, having been identified on surveillance footage at various locations. The stolen goods included weapons, money, credit cards, electronics, and police equipment such as bulletproof vests and gas masks. In some instances, Davis worked with two accomplices.

A search of Davis’s home uncovered numerous stolen items, many of which had been reported missing over the past several months. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at over $160,000.

Davis faces multiple charges, including 17 counts of receiving stolen property, 16 counts of theft by unlawful taking, and 14 counts of theft from a motor vehicle. He is also facing related robbery and conspiracy charges.

Authorities believe Davis targeted cars parked in green spaces, particularly in Fairmount Park, where people left valuable items in plain sight. When Davis obtained credit card information, he allegedly acted quickly to buy gift cards before the transactions could be flagged.

Davis is also under investigation in Montgomery County and has a long criminal history dating back to 1995 across various states. He is currently being held on $1.25 million bail.
