Charles Smith Arrested After Deadly DUI Crash in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A 30-year-old man was arrested early today following a deadly crash in south Wichita.

Police report that the suspect, identified as Charles Smith, was driving under the influence when he crashed into several trees in the 1700 block of S. Mosley just after 2:30 a.m. The crash resulted in the death of 22-year-old passenger Lanashia Clay, while a 25-year-old woman seated in the back suffered severe injuries and remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

Smith was also transported to the hospital for treatment and was later released. Upon his release, he was arrested and faces charges including involuntary manslaughter, aggravated battery-DUI, and driving with a suspended license.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to gather information.
