A 32-year-old man from Bihar was arrested by Mumbai Police for impersonating an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and illegally occupying government facilities.
The accused, Chandramohan Singh, was caught on Saturday near a hotel in Malad while traveling in a car marked with a “Government of India” nameplate. Earlier, Singh had allegedly stayed at a Customs guest house in Mumbai, claiming to be an official from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Police said Singh had initially evaded suspicion when he was stopped by a traffic constable in Dadar by falsely asserting his identity as an IAS officer. However, after receiving a tip-off, authorities tracked him down. During the arrest, Singh produced a forged IAS identity card, and further search revealed another fake document stating he worked for the Ministry of Defence.
Singh eventually confessed that the documents were fake. He was booked under appropriate sections of the law, including those for impersonation and forgery. The police are still investigating his motive for the impersonation.
