Chandralika Medhi Arrested in Guwahati for Illegal Stock Trading Scam

Chandralika Medhi, wife of Mintu Das, the managing director of IIBIT (Indian Institute of Business and Information Technology), was presented before the Special CBI Court in Guwahati on Wednesday. Medhi was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi and was brought to Guwahati on transit remand.

She has been booked under relevant sections of the law in connection with Case Number RC 15/24, which pertains to an ongoing investigation into illegal stock market trading scams. The court granted the CBI a three-day custody of Medhi, despite the agency requesting five days. During the hearing, the court imposed specific conditions for her custody, ensuring that she would not be subjected to physical or mental torture and would receive medical care every 48 hours from a specialized doctor. Additionally, she must be examined by a gynaecologist.

The CBI had previously sent two notices to Medhi, directing her to appear at their office in Guwahati, but she failed to comply. This non-compliance led to her arrest. Notably, her husband, Mintu Das, was also arrested by the CBI in connection with the same case.

The investigation into the illegal stock trading scam continues, with the CBI focusing on the operations of IIBIT and its involvement in fraudulent financial activities.
