Chandigarh Police Arrest Three Officers in Rs 5.26 Crore ATM Fraud Case

The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police has arrested three of its own officers from the District Crime Cell (DCC) for their alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy and for harboring two accused linked to a Rs 5.26 crore ATM fraud in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

The arrested officers—Inspector Jasminder Singh, Head Constable Satish Kumar, and Senior Constable Samunder Singh—were booked under Section 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS. They were previously suspended on Tuesday following an internal investigation initiated by SP Headquarters, Manjeet Sheoran.

The case stems from a fraudulent incident in Bagpat, UP, where Gaurav Tomar and Rocky Malik, employees of the CMS company, misappropriated cash during an ATM refilling operation. A FIR was filed at Baraut Police Station, UP, on March 4, 2025.

To avoid arrest, the two suspects fled to Chandigarh with the assistance of a local middleman named Munish, who allegedly promised them they could surrender before the Chandigarh Police. The arrested officers were said to have helped the suspects hide, facilitating their evasion from UP Police.

Following the internal investigation and the arrests, the Chandigarh Police have vowed to continue probing the role of the involved officers and uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.
