On Thursday, Chandigarh Police apprehended a drug supplier, Aslam, after recovering 16.2 kilograms of poppy husk and Rs6.7 lakh in cash, suspected to be linked to drug transactions. The arrest was made around 4 PM, following a tip-off to the authorities.
Aslam, a 39-year-old resident of Milk Colony in Dhanas, could not provide any legal permits or licenses for possessing the banned substance, leading to his arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Reports indicate that he has a limited educational background, having only completed up to Class 5, and is also believed to be a drug addict.
According to police, Aslam’s main role in the drug trade involved supplying poppy husk to various locations in Chandigarh. He allegedly purchased the drugs at a low price from an unidentified person near the Marble Market in Dhanas and then sold them at a higher price to local buyers, capitalizing on the demand for drugs in the region.
Aslam utilized his three-wheeler for transporting the narcotics. After his arrest, he was presented in court and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, with police efforts aimed at uncovering a larger network involving his suppliers and customers.
