CBI Arrests Senior Divisional Engineer Satyam Kumar Singh for Rs 2 Lakh Bribe in Varanasi

In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Senior Divisional Engineer (Sr. DEN) Satyam Kumar Singh of the Northern Railway in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. The arrest was made following a detailed investigation into the complaint filed by a private firm that had been awarded two railway maintenance contracts worth approximately Rs 4 crore.

The complainant, whose firm had been assigned the maintenance of railway tracks from Thawe to Chhapra, reported that Singh had demanded the bribe under the threat of obstructing future work and withholding payments. Singh allegedly coerced the complainant to pay Rs 2 lakh to ensure the smooth processing of the tenders and bills.

The CBI swiftly set up a trap, apprehending Singh in the act of accepting the bribe. Following his arrest, the accused was presented before the Special CBI Court in Lucknow, where further legal proceedings are expected.

In addition to the arrest, CBI officials conducted searches at Singh’s residence as part of the ongoing investigation into the case. Authorities have assured that the probe will continue, with more details expected in the coming days.
