CBI Arrests Mastermind in CAPF Recruitment Scam Involving Fake Domicile Certificates

In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) recruitment scam in West Bengal, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the alleged mastermind behind the fraudulent scheme.

The arrest of Mahesh Kumar Choudhary, a Sepoy at the Engineering Store Depot (ESD) in Kanikinara, North 24 Parganas, follows a directive from the Calcutta High Court on August 2, 2023, which prompted the CBI to initiate a probe into the allegations of undeserving candidates being appointed to the CAPF using forged domicile certificates.

Choudhary is accused of running an illegal racket that provided fake West Bengal domicile certificates, including fraudulent documents claiming residency in border districts or Naxal-affected areas, which were essential for candidates to be eligible for certain CAPF positions. The scam allowed individuals who were not eligible under the domicile criteria to secure appointments in the CAPF, bypassing the rules and regulations meant to ensure fair recruitment.

The investigation, which has gained momentum following Choudhary’s arrest, aims to uncover the full extent of the scam and identify other individuals involved in the forgery operation.
