In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Bikash Das, a resident of Das Colony, Panchgram, Hailakandi District, Assam, in connection with the infamous Tripura Chit Fund Scam. Das was apprehended in Bhiwandi, Thane District, Maharashtra, on February 3, 2025, after a lengthy search.
Das, who had been evading law enforcement for several years, was declared a proclaimed offender by the Special Judge (CBI) in Agartala, Tripura, in 2013. He was wanted in two FIRs related to fraudulent financial schemes that were transferred to the CBI by the Tripura government. A standing warrant for his arrest had been issued on August 16, 2024, and the CBI also offered a cash reward of Rs 20,000 for any information that would lead to his capture.
After years of evading authorities, a combination of technical surveillance and intelligence gathering led investigators to Kalhar in Bhiwandi, where Das was finally apprehended. His arrest marks a significant milestone in the investigation of the Tripura Chit Fund Scam.
