Carl Chateauvert Faces 115 Charges in Toronto for Multiple Crimes

TORONTO, ON —
Carl Chateauvert, a 34-year-old man from Quebec, has been arrested on 115 charges following a series of alleged offenses spanning over a year, including multiple stabbings, auto thefts, police pursuits, and break-ins, according to Toronto police.

Chateauvert was arrested on May 2, after allegedly stealing police equipment from a vehicle earlier that week. Police say he used several aliases and had evaded law enforcement multiple times, even leading officers on high-speed chases through Toronto’s downtown core.

The charges against him include his involvement in the January 29 stabbings of two men, aged 26 and 41, in the Scarborough area, as well as the May 1 stabbing of a 32-year-old man downtown. Both stabbing incidents left the victims with life-threatening injuries.

Following his arrest, investigators connected Chateauvert to property thefts from vehicles in the Toronto area starting in April 2024. Police executed a search warrant at his home near Yonge and Wellesley streets, where they recovered property and identification belonging to theft victims.

In total, Chateauvert faces 115 charges in Toronto, including:

Aggravated assault

Two counts of assault with a weapon

Two counts of assault causing bodily harm

16 counts of mischief under $5,000

Eight counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

13 counts of theft under $5,000

Three counts of theft of a motor vehicle

Four counts of failure to stop for police

39 counts of failure to comply with a release order

Chateauvert has also been charged with 28 additional offenses by other police services in Ontario and Quebec. He appeared in court on Tuesday via video link and is scheduled to return on Friday.

Authorities are urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Chateauvert’s crimes or anyone with additional information to contact the police.
