Caretaker Arrested for Stealing Rs10.5 Lakh in Cash and Jewellery

A caretaker has been arrested for allegedly stealing Rs10.5 lakh in cash and jewellery from a house in Silicon City, Rau, on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Keshav Rajak, had been working at the house but went missing after the theft on March 11, 2025.

The incident was reported by the complainant, Amit Mishra, a resident of the apartment, who discovered that Rs12 lakh in cash and a gold chain were stolen. The investigation immediately pointed to Keshav Rajak, the caretaker, who was suspected of being involved but had disappeared after the crime.

An FIR was filed under Section 305(a) of the BNS Act, and a special police team, led by Inspector Rajpal Rathore and under the guidance of ACP Rubina Mizwani, was formed to locate the suspect. Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and conducted extensive searches across several cities, including Maihar, Nandarai, Patharia, Damoh, Vidisha, and Bhopal.

The breakthrough came on Monday when a tip-off led the police to Keshav Rajak at Rau Bypass near Sage University, where he was apprehended. Upon interrogation, Rajak confessed to the crime. He explained that after stealing the cash and jewellery, he purchased a new bag and hid the stolen money behind a temple in a deserted spot, covering it with stones. He also admitted to spending part of the stolen money during his travels to Ahmedabad, Somnath, Bhopal, and Ujjain.

The police recovered Rs9 lakh in cash and the gold chain, valued at Rs1.5 lakh, from the hiding spot, totaling Rs10.5 lakh in stolen items. Keshav Rajak was taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
