A thief, identified as U. Soloman (27), hailing from Ooty, was arrested by the Peelamedu police on Friday after he crashed a stolen car into a parapet wall along the Pollachi-Valparai ghat section. Soloman had stolen the car, along with five sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs1.2 lakh in cash, from the house of P Ramakrishna Rao (60) in Sivasakthi Nagar, Peelamedu. The theft took place while the family was away on a trip to Rajasthan.
Following the crash, a special police team quickly apprehended Soloman, who had fractured his hand in the accident. He was subsequently remanded into judicial custody. This case adds to the ongoing efforts of the Peelamedu police to crack down on property crimes in the area.
