Cameron Street Gang Members Sentenced for Drug Trafficking

BOSTON, MA — Two members of the notorious Cameron Street gang have been sentenced to federal prison for their involvement in extensive drug trafficking operations, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts announced today.

James Rodrigues Sentenced to 42 Months
James Rodrigues, 34, of Boston, also known as “Bummy,” was sentenced to 42 months in prison for conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise (RICO) and conspiracy to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine. Rodrigues was identified as a key player in the gang’s drug trafficking activities.

Over the course of a two-year investigation, authorities discovered that Rodrigues worked with other gang members to distribute hundreds of grams of cocaine and crack cocaine from a stash house located in Somerville. In April 2022, authorities conducted a search of the stash house and seized 398 grams of cocaine, packaging materials, two hydraulic presses, a digital scale, a cellphone, and nearly $15,000 in cash.

Devante Lopes Sentenced to 60 Months
Devante Lopes, 31, of Boston and Quincy, also known as “D-Lopes,” received a 60-month prison sentence for RICO conspiracy, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Lopes was involved in importing large quantities of marijuana from California to Boston and surrounding areas, primarily using the mail system for distribution.

Between 2019 and 2020, Lopes received at least 24 packages from California, each containing marijuana. One package intercepted by authorities contained 2.6 kilograms of marijuana. In total, Lopes is estimated to have received over 56 kilograms of marijuana during the investigation.

During a search of Lopes’ residence in April 2022, authorities seized 800 grams of cocaine, hidden inside a bench near his bed, as well as digital scales, plastic bags for street sales, a bag of pink pills, a money counter, an empty Glock firearm box, and ammunition.

Gang’s Extensive Criminal Operations
Both Rodrigues and Lopes were central figures in the Cameron Street gang’s drug trafficking network, which spanned multiple cities and involved the distribution of illegal substances such as cocaine, crack cocaine, and marijuana. The investigation and arrests mark a significant victory for law enforcement in dismantling a violent criminal enterprise with widespread reach.

With both men sentenced, authorities continue to investigate the broader operations of the Cameron Street gang to further disrupt their illegal activities.
