BATON ROUGE – A man accused of selling stolen vehicles in Baton Rouge has been arrested following a series of investigative reports by WBRZ.
Calvin Scott, 36, was taken into custody on Monday and now faces charges of theft, forgery, and illegal possession of stolen items for crimes that took place between December 2024 and January 2025.
Multiple Vehicle Thefts Linked to Scott
According to a warrant filed after WBRZ’s second report on the case, Scott stole two trucks from a Maryland Street home in December. The theft was discovered on Dec. 11, and neighbors informed the owner that Scott had taken the vehicles without permission.
When contacted, Scott admitted to the theft and claimed he had received permission from a friend of the victim, though he never spoke to the actual owner. One of the stolen trucks was later found at a Greenwell Springs Road salvage yard, where Scott had scrapped it for parts.
Alleged Illegal Car Sales
Scott is also accused of selling stolen vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz sedan reported stolen on Jan. 26. The vehicle was later located at the same salvage yard where the stolen trucks were found. Police say Scott allegedly sold the car a week earlier for $400.
A separate warrant details a case from Jan. 31, when Brandi Jenkins purchased a stolen Kia Sorrento from Scott for $1,809. She received a bill of sale but was later pulled over and informed the vehicle had been stolen.
When questioned, Scott claimed he had purchased the Kia from Texas, stating he paid $200 for the vehicle despite its damaged steering column and missing keys.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities believe Scott may be linked to other illegal car sales, including a separate case from Dec. 2, when another victim reported purchasing a stolen vehicle from him.
Scott remains in police custody, and further investigations are underway.
