The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested 50-year-old Melissa Mirick of Cairo, Georgia, for allegedly stealing several million dollars from South Georgia Law Associates, LLC, in Thomasville, Georgia. Mirick, the office manager of the firm, was taken into custody on December 9, 2024, following an investigation into the misappropriation of funds from the firm’s accounts.
The investigation began after the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance on August 8, 2024. According to officials, Mirick had full access to the financial accounts of the law firm and is accused of moving large sums of money between South Georgia Law Associates and GFA Design/Build Contractors, LLC, a company she and her husband own in Cairo.
Mirick has been charged with eight felony counts of third-degree forgery and one felony count of theft by taking. Investigators believe that over several years, Mirick embezzled funds, and the total amount stolen could amount to several million dollars.
Mirick was arrested and booked into the Thomas County Jail. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are anticipated.
The GBI urges anyone with further information about the case to contact the Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090, or submit anonymous tips through the GBI’s online portal or mobile app.
