Cachar Police Seize 60,000 Yaba Tablets and Heroin, Arrest Suspect

In a major operation on Saturday night, Cachar Police successfully intercepted a drug peddler and seized a massive haul of 60,000 Yaba tablets and suspected heroin, valued at an estimated Rs 20 crore. The operation, carried out along the Sildubi-Silcoorie road, led to the arrest of Sahil Ahmed Laskar, a suspected drug trafficker from Nasirgram, Sonai Circle.

At around 1:00 am, acting on intelligence inputs regarding drug trafficking, a police team led by Inspector General of Police (Special Task Force), Partha Sarathi Mahanta, intercepted Laskar while he was on his motorcycle. The team conducted a thorough search and recovered a large quantity of drugs.

The police found 10 soap cases containing suspected heroin, along with 60,000 Yaba tablets weighing a total of 6.848 kg. The total street value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around Rs 20 crore. Laskar’s motorcycle, used for transporting the drugs, was also seized by the police.

The drugs and tablets were seized in the presence of independent witnesses, as per legal procedures, to ensure transparency in the investigation.

According to Superintendent of Police (Cachar), Numal Mahatta, the police are continuing with further legal proceedings. The authorities are now focusing on tracking the source and distribution network of the seized drugs, as well as uncovering other possible links in the drug trafficking operation.
