REDDING, Calif. — A Burney man was arrested Monday after a bank robbery led to a high-speed pursuit and a collision with a patrol vehicle, according to the Redding Police Department.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a robbery at Banner Bank on East Cypress Avenue. The suspect, later identified as Dana Schultz, 73, allegedly stole cash from the bank while indicating that he was armed.
Schultz fled the scene in a white Chevy Silverado, prompting officers to give chase. The pursuit continued through West Redding, with Schultz driving at high speeds and showing a reckless disregard for public safety. The California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Northern Division Air Operations assisted officers in tracking Schultz’s movements.
The pursuit came to an end when Schultz crashed into a marked patrol vehicle near the end of Sunglow Drive. Inside the truck, authorities discovered evidence of the crime, including cash from the robbery, a loaded gun, extra California license plates, and clothing.
Schultz was taken into custody and booked into Shasta County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including robbery, evading police, driving against traffic, resisting arrest, and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to assess the full scope of Schultz’s actions during the robbery and subsequent chase.
