BRATTLEBORO — A Burlington man has been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle thefts in Brattleboro. Yesi Garelnabi, 33, was taken into custody after a series of complaints regarding thefts from motor vehicles in the area.
The Brattleboro Police Department had been investigating numerous reports of car break-ins over the past several weeks. Officers identified a suspect based on these complaints and spotted Garelnabi walking on South Main Street on Saturday. However, when approached by officers, he evaded them. The next day, at around 10:45 a.m., officers found him walking on Canal Street.
Upon questioning, officers discovered that Garelnabi had an active arrest warrant from Chittenden County. He was arrested and brought to the Brattleboro Police Department for processing.
During the arrest, Garelnabi was found with two debit cards that had been stolen the night before. He was also linked to a backpack reported stolen on December 12 and a separate incident involving trespassing into a motor vehicle on Sunday.
Garelnabi was cited for possession of stolen property and released with a citation to appear in court on February 4. However, the following evening, police received another report of a theft from a vehicle on Ledgewood Heights. Investigations and surveillance led them to identify Garelnabi as the suspect.
Garelnabi was arrested again, this time for petty larceny and unlawful trespassing. He was held at the Brattleboro station in lieu of $200 bail and was arraigned in court on Tuesday. According to the state’s inmate locator, he has been released.
Garelnabi now faces multiple charges, including theft, trespassing, and possession of stolen property, as authorities continue their investigation into the series of vehicle break-ins in the Brattleboro area.
