On Friday, the Srinagar police announced the successful apprehension of an individual involved in an ATM card swapping scam. The incident came to light when a woman, Shaheena, a resident of Kupwara, filed a complaint with Police Post Bagyas on February 12. She reported that while visiting the Dental College in Shreen Bagh for a checkup with her daughter, an unknown individual swapped her ATM card inside the ATM booth. This fraudulent act led to a withdrawal of Rs40,000 from her bank account.
The police promptly registered a case, FIR No. 14/2025, under sections 318(4) and 305 BNS at Police Station Safakadal, and launched an investigation.
A team led by the Incharge of Police Post Bagyas, after dedicated efforts and analyzing CCTV footage from the ATM, identified the suspect as Burhan Rah, son of Gh Mohidin Rah, a resident of Bonpora, Nowgam. The accused was arrested, and multiple ATM cards were recovered from his possession.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine whether Burhan Rah is involved in other similar fraudulent activities. Authorities are also expecting more recoveries related to this case.
