Detectives from the Operations Directorate have arrested Brian Otiende Anyanga, a serial fraud suspect and alleged leader of a notorious land fraud cartel operating in Nairobi. This group has been issuing fake lease certificates while posing as officials from the Nairobi County Lands Registry, causing significant financial losses for landowners and developers across the city.
Brian’s arrest came shortly after the capture of his accomplice, Lawrence Martins Ochieng, who was involved in a land fraud case that nearly saw a victim lose two valuable plots of land in Nairobi’s Pumwani area. The fraudsters provided fake lease certificates, tricking the victim into losing over Kes. 553,000, though the crime was thwarted before the full loss occurred.
After learning that Ochieng had been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on December 2, Brian went into hiding at his Buruburu residence. However, after a two-week manhunt, detectives apprehended him on Saturday, December 14.
Brian, who is also facing charges related to a gold scam and is currently out on bond, is set to appear in court at Milimani Law Courts today (Monday, December 15).
Meanwhile, detectives are analyzing several suspicious land documents seized during the investigation. Authorities are exploring whether any officials at the Lands Registry were involved in the fraudulent activities. The investigation is ongoing as more details about the cartel’s operations continue to surface.
