“Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Truong Arrested in Connection with Drug-Trafficking Investigation”

Bogalusa, La. — In a shocking turn of events, Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Truong, 25, was arrested on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, following a lengthy investigation into a drug-trafficking organization (DTO) operating in the Bogalusa area.

The Louisiana State Police, in coordination with the 22nd Judicial District Court District Attorney’s Office, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Office, led the investigation which started in April 2024. The investigation targeted a DTO involved in distributing opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products, and MDMA. Authorities said that members of the group also utilized social media platforms to facilitate drug sales and manage payments, extending the reach of their illegal activities.

Charges Against Tyrin Truong
Truong faces multiple serious charges, including:

Engaging in transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses
Solicitation of prostitutes
Unauthorized use of a movable (taking or using someone’s property without consent)
Truong’s involvement with the DTO allegedly included drug transactions and other illicit activities tied to the group’s operations.

The Drug Trafficking Operation
Authorities reported that the DTO, which had expanded its activities through social media and other covert methods, was also involved in purchasing firearms with profits from drug sales. Some of these firearms were allegedly distributed to individuals prohibited from possessing weapons and were linked to violent crimes in Bogalusa.

In total, seven individuals were arrested in connection to the operation, including Tyrin Truong and six others, all from Bogalusa. The additional suspects are:

MacKenzie Lynn Cefalu (24)
De-Saleem Wali Pittman (24)
Dirul S. Pittman (22)
Salehal-Dien Malike Pittman (26)
Tonya Renee Stage (51)
Devan Michael Williams (28)
Like Truong, these suspects are accused of engaging in transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, with some facing additional charges related to the distribution of Schedule I and II controlled substances.

Investigation and Ongoing Efforts
The Louisiana State Police Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force worked tirelessly on this investigation, and seven search and arrest warrants were executed, leading to the arrests. However, law enforcement officials cautioned that the investigation remains ongoing, and additional individuals and activities are still under scrutiny.

District Attorney Collin Sims emphasized that authorities will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of the citizens of Bogalusa. “We are not finished,” Sims stated, signaling that more action is to come in the investigation.

Mayor’s Arrest and Bond
Truong, who made history as the youngest mayor of Bogalusa in 2022, is now facing legal troubles after his involvement in the criminal operation. His bond was set at $150,000 on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. At the time of writing, his office had not responded to requests for comment on the arrest.

This arrest has rocked the local community, as Truong’s tenure as mayor had been seen as a promising chapter for the city. The mayor’s legal issues now raise serious questions about his leadership.

Stay tuned as further developments unfold in this high-profile case.
