Bobby Montoya Arrested After Armed Robbery at Alamosa Store

Alamosa, CO — Bobby Montoya, 23, of La Jara, was arrested on Thursday evening following an armed robbery at the Big R store in Alamosa. The suspect allegedly stole two boxes of ammunition and a flashlight before brandishing a firearm when confronted by a store employee.

At approximately 6:25 p.m., the Alamosa Police Department (APD) responded to the scene at 148 Craft Dr., reporting an armed robbery. Upon receiving a description of Montoya’s vehicle, officers coordinated with Conejos County deputies and La Jara Police Department.

The vehicle was located at a residence in La Jara, where Montoya was apprehended following a brief confrontation. No handgun was found on his person, but officers secured the residence for further investigation. A search warrant was later executed, revealing three boxes of ammunition, two of which matched the stolen items. Additionally, a small safe containing illicit narcotics, including fentanyl pills, was discovered at the location.

Montoya was taken to Alamosa County Jail and booked on multiple charges, including Aggravated Robbery, Theft, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Through further investigation, officers learned the location of the stolen firearm, which had been discarded after the robbery. The weapon was recovered from a recycling bin at Boyd Park in Alamosa.

The Alamosa Police Department expressed gratitude to the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office, La Jara Police Department, and other involved agencies for their collaboration in the investigation.

Montoya is scheduled to appear in court on February 11, 2025.
