Prince Mistry, the son of BJP’s Baxipanch Yuva Morcha chief Kanu Mistry, was arrested in Ahmedabad’s Madhavpura area for allegedly defrauding around 40 individuals in a car rental scam. Victims claim that Prince lured them into renting their cars with promises of substantial monthly rents, only to pawn the vehicles to others.
According to reports, victims had initially approached the police 13 days prior to the arrest, but political pressure allegedly hindered immediate action against Prince. The police finally registered a case on July 26, leading to his arrest the following day by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB).
Details from the complaint reveal that Kajal Jadav, who operates a mortuary van at Civil Hospital, was persuaded by a coworker to rent his car to Prince in December 2023. Prince assured him of a Rs50,000 deposit and a monthly rent of Rs33,000. Trusting Prince due to his father’s political connections, Jadav and others proceeded with the rental arrangement.
Initially, payments were made as promised. However, Prince eventually stopped paying most car owners, attributing the delays to issues with bill payments. As calls went unanswered, car owners sought him out on July 13 but found he was missing. Kanu Mistry, Prince’s father, denied any involvement.
Investigations revealed that Prince fabricated the rental contract and had pawned the vehicles to various individuals. Over 400 cars were rented across Ahmedabad and surrounding districts, with pawn amounts ranging from Rs1 lakh to Rs5 lakh.
From Asarwa alone, Prince rented out 54 cars, of which 14 were recovered using GPS tracking. Disturbingly, these cars were found containing liquor cartons, bags, and bloodstains, indicating their use for transporting illicit goods.
