BJP Leader S Govindarajan Wife Arrested for Land Fraud in Trichy

S Govindarajan, the state deputy president of the BJP’s agricultural wing, along with his wife G Geetha, was arrested for defrauding a man of Rs4.8 crore in a land scam. The couple, along with two accomplices, allegedly tricked the victim, G Devaraj, 56, from Srirangam, into purchasing a property with forged documents.

The incident began in April 2021, when Devaraj, seeking land, was introduced to Govindarajan. The accused showed him a 17.5-acre plot in Thimmarayasamuthiram, claiming it was available for sale. However, the land actually belonged to K V Rengasamy, 80, a resident of Chennai, and was leased by Govindarajan.

Devaraj agreed to buy the land, paying an advance of Rs4.82 crore. Despite receiving the funds, Govindarajan failed to proceed with the sale. When Devaraj demanded the registration of the property, Govindarajan forged Rengasamy’s signature and, with the help of two associates, illegally registered the land in Devaraj’s name.

After discovering the deception, Devaraj confronted Govindarajan, but was met with verbal abuse. In response, Devaraj filed a complaint with the Central Crime Branch (CCB), leading to Govindarajan and Geetha’s arrest. Police are currently searching for Govindarajan’s associates, C Sekar and R Vasudevan, who are also implicated in the scam.
